Please read these Terms of Service carefully before placing an order or using our website. By accessing our website or purchasing from us, you agree to be bound by these terms.
1. About Us
The Eye Centre is an independent opticians established in 1974, trading from 56 High Street, Leicester, LE1 5YN. We are registered in England and Wales and regulated by the General Optical Council (GOC).
2. Eligibility
By placing an order, you confirm that:
- You are at least 18 years of age, or purchasing with the consent of a parent or guardian
- You are a UK resident, or are purchasing for delivery to a UK address
- Any prescription details you provide are accurate, valid, and were issued by a qualified optometrist or ophthalmologist
- Your prescription is current — we recommend prescriptions are no older than 2 years for spectacle lenses
3. Products and Services
3.1 Frames and Sunglasses
We sell a curated range of prescription frames and sunglasses from brands including Ray-Ban, Oakley, Burberry, Armani Exchange, and Polo Ralph Lauren. All products are genuine and sourced directly from authorised brand distributors.
3.2 Prescription Lenses
We offer single vision and varifocal prescription lenses fitted to frames purchased through our store. By submitting your prescription, you authorise us to use those details solely for the purpose of glazing your chosen frame.
You are responsible for ensuring your prescription is correct. We cannot accept liability for errors in prescriptions provided to us. If you are unsure whether your prescription is valid or up to date, please book an eye test before placing your order.
3.3 Plano (Clear Non-Prescription) Lenses
Clear plano lenses carry zero refractive power and are not a substitute for prescription lenses. They are supplied for cosmetic or protective purposes only.
3.4 Frame Only
Frames supplied as "Frame Only" are provided with demonstration lenses which are not optically correct and are not suitable for everyday wear. We accept no responsibility for use of demonstration lenses as vision correction.
3.5 Same-Day Glazing
Where same-day glazing is offered, this is subject to availability of the lens type required and in-store capacity. We will contact you promptly if same-day completion is not possible for your order.
4. Pricing and Payment
- All prices are displayed in British Pounds Sterling (£) and include VAT at the current applicable rate
- We accept all major credit and debit cards, and other payment methods displayed at checkout
- Payment is taken in full at the time of order
- We reserve the right to correct pricing errors at any time; in such cases we will contact you before processing your order
5. Orders and Contract
An order placed through our website constitutes an offer to purchase. A contract between you and The Eye Centre is formed only when we send you an order confirmation email. We reserve the right to decline any order at our discretion, in which case a full refund will be issued.
6. Prescription Verification
We reserve the right to request a copy of your original prescription before processing orders that include prescription lenses. If we are unable to verify your prescription, we may contact you for clarification or cancel the lens element of your order and refund accordingly.
We do not offer online sight tests. If you need a current prescription, please book an appointment with us.
7. Delivery
- We aim to dispatch in-stock frame-only orders within 2–3 working days
- Prescription orders typically take 5–10 working days from receipt of a verified prescription, depending on lens type
- Delivery timescales are estimates and not guaranteed; we are not liable for delays caused by third-party couriers or circumstances beyond our control
- Risk of loss passes to you upon delivery
8. Returns and Refunds
Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 are not affected by these terms.
8.1 Change of Mind (Frames and Sunglasses)
You may return unworn, unglazed frames in original condition with all packaging and tags intact within 30 days of receipt for a full refund. Contact us at sales@theeyecentre.com to arrange a return.
8.2 Prescription Orders
Due to the bespoke nature of prescription lenses, we are unable to accept returns on glazed frames except in the following circumstances:
- The lenses were made to an incorrect prescription due to our error
- The frame or lenses are found to be defective or faulty
- The goods do not match what was described or ordered
In these cases, please contact us within 14 days of receipt and we will arrange for the item to be inspected, remade, or refunded as appropriate.
8.3 Faulty or Damaged Goods
If your order arrives damaged or develops a fault within 30 days, you are entitled to a full refund, repair, or replacement under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. After 30 days and up to 6 months, we are entitled to attempt a repair or replacement before offering a refund.
8.4 Returns Process
To return an item, email sales@theeyecentre.com with your order number and reason for return. We will provide a returns address and instructions. We recommend returning items via tracked post. Return postage costs are your responsibility unless the item is faulty or incorrectly supplied.
9. Warranties and Guarantees
- All frames carry a 12-month manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship
- Prescription lenses carry a 12-month guarantee against optical defects
- Warranties do not cover accidental damage, misuse, or normal wear and tear
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- Our total liability to you in connection with any order shall not exceed the price paid for that order
- We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or special losses, including loss of profit or loss of opportunity
- Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law
11. Intellectual Property
All content on this website — including images, copy, logos, and branding — is owned by or licensed to The Eye Centre. You may not reproduce, distribute, or use any content without our prior written consent.
Product images of branded frames remain the intellectual property of their respective brand owners.
12. Privacy
Your personal data is processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy and UK GDPR. We use your data only to process your orders, communicate with you about your purchases, and improve our services. We do not sell your data to third parties.
13. Cookies
Our website uses cookies to provide core functionality, remember your preferences, and analyse site usage. By continuing to use our website you consent to our use of cookies as described in our Cookie Policy.
14. Accuracy of Information
We take reasonable care to ensure product descriptions, images, and pricing are accurate. However, slight variations in colour may occur due to monitor settings. We reserve the right to correct errors on our website at any time.
